Jack Hibbs — an anti-LGBTQ+ pastor who preaches at the Calvary Chapel megachurch in Chino Hills, California — said that “Satan himself” planned the “transgender agenda.” Hibbs then demonstrated that he doesn’t understand the Bible or science very well.
Hibbs, who thinks legalized same-sex marriage “crucified God’s word,” has recently announced his nationwide campaign to require educators to out LGBTQ+ students to their parents. He said doing so is needed to fight the “demonic and dark satanic powers” in public schools that are “sexualizing” and “mentally abusing” children.
In a recent video, Hibbs said it’s trans people, not Christians, who are “making such a big deal about the transgender issue.”
“They’re the ones forcing it down people’s throats,” Hibbs claimed. “Christians are completely fine with transgender people doing their transgenderism in their own home, but when they include our kids, that’s what ignited the nation.”
“Parents will never surrender their kids to the transgender agenda,” he continued. “Transgenderism is a violation of the word and will of God. It’s a violation of humanity. It’s a violation of science. It’s a violation — if you’re an evolutionist — regarding evolution.”
In reality, the Bible (often referred to as “the Word of God”) has verses supporting trans people. Also, many evolutionary scientists know that transgender animals exist.
“It’s a violation on every front,” Hibbs went on. “It is perverted. It is debased. It is godless. It is insanity, and it is the propping up of a severe mental illness and/or the severe judgment of God.”
Trans identity is not a mental illness, according to the World Health Organization.
Nevertheless, he continued, “Transgenderism is actually a sexually perverted cult. The Christian is the only one with guts to stand up and say, ‘Hey, transgenders, you need Jesus. If you really want to transition, you need to transition over to Jesus Christ and be born again.’”
“Transgenderism is an anti-God, anti-Christ, plan of none other than Satan himself,” he concluded.
Unbeknownst to Hibbs, there are many transgender Christians. In fact, Anglican, Baptist, Episcopal, Evangelical, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Unitarian churches all have trans clergy members.
Additionally, a 2016 survey of trans people found that 66% of respondents had been part of a faith community at some point. But while 19% described themselves as “actively involved” in their faith communities, the same percentage also said they left their faith communities after experiencing transphobic rejection.
Other transphobes resort to Hibbs’s style of religious transphobia. However, Hibbs has gone further by allowing rightwing activist Charlie Kirk to speak at his church. Kirk is the founder of Turning Point USA, an “alt-lite” organization for young far-right conservatives.
Kirk has attacked transgender people and described opposition to religious liberty as “fascism.” He has claimed that trans people are causing inflation and trying to turn people into machines. He also said that China would invade Taiwan because an American high school hosted a drag show.
Kirk is a self-described Christian Nationalist and a supporter of former and sexual abuser President Donald Trump. Hibbs is also a major Trump supporter, which makes sense considering Trump’s many attacks on transgender Americans.
In November 2020, Hibbs got on his knees, cried, and led his congregation in prayer because he couldn’t accept the presidential election results because Trump lost.
Four months before Trump’s loss, Hibbs appeared in the film Trump 2024: The World After Trump, among a veritable Who’s Who of anti-LGBTQ+ pastors, politicians, and pundits. Collectively, they discussed why Trump is the only way to stop the New World Order, globalists, and socialism, common dog whistles for immigrants, Jews, and taxes.
