The following is a simple commercial from openly gay San Francisco mayoral candidate Bevan Dufty. You’ve probably seen it before but it bears repeating in its proper context. It shows that the loving and raising of children is not something strictly owned by the heterosexual community or a stereotypical nuclear family.

GOP Presidential candidate Herman Cain, appearing on ABC’s “The View” on Tuesday, said he feels being gay “is a choice,” and that if elected President, he would reinstate “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” the former ban on openly gay military service members.

Six Democratic lawmakers on Monday sent U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), a letter reiterating their request for a briefing on the efforts of the law firm hired by the Speaker to defend the Defense of Marriage Act in several ongoing federal court challenges.

Now that Wednesday night’s Republican Debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is history, it is important that we look back at what was said – or more accurately what was not said – during the debate.

Openly lesbian U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) — who on Tuesday announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) — told a group of LGBTQ journalists on Wednesday that “this campaign next year will not be about me, it will be about the middle class and the threats they are facing.”

Democratic U. S. Representative Tammy Baldwin on Tuesday morning declared her candidacy for a U.S. Senate seat in her home state of Wisconsin. The seat is being vacated by fellow Democrat, Senator Herb Kohl, who announced in May that he would be retiring.

Candidates are actively interrupting scientific communication in this country. Blatantly standing up in the middle of the show and making factual inferences with fantastical statements. Distracting people from the reality hiding behind the curtain with a little folksy humor or superstitious nonsense. And I’m annoyed.

Recent statements of Rick Perry, Governor of Texas and presidential candidate, emphasize the anti-gay elements that have permeated this GOP primary season. Perry’s views are largely out-of-step with those of mainstream Americans – including people of faith.

Michele Bachmann, fresh from a victory in the Ames, Iowa Straw Poll on Saturday, appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday morning, and was again dogged with questions about her anti-gay platform, this time declaring, “I don’t judge gays.”
