VP or Sen. Marjorie Taylor Greene? She’s also dreaming of being in Donald Trump’s Cabinet

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) – one of the most anti-LGBTQ+ members of the House – took a break from lashing out after Donald Trump got indicted on 13 criminal counts in her home state to talk about her ambitions to run for higher offices. And she’s considering quite a few.

Greene has spent the last few days in public blasting Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for filing charges against Trump on Monday that cover his alleged attempt to get Georgia officials to falsify the 2020 election results and say that he won the state. Trump and his allies have justified their actions by saying that President Joe Biden stole the election in several states that he won, including Georgia. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R) said in a statement this week that the election was fair in his state and Biden won.

“The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen. For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward – under oath – and prove anything in a court of law,” Kemp posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus.”

This set Greene off, who argued in an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Kemp’s loyalty to Trump should have outweighed his need to tell people the truth about the election in his state: “His message should have been against this, not arguing with President Trump about the election and making it about his own ego and pride over Georgia’s election.”

And that’s when Greene said that she was considering running against Kemp for Senate in 2026. Both of Georgia’s U.S. senators are Democrats and Kemp will not be allowed to run for governor again in 2026 due to term limits. Kemp is rumored to be considering a Senate run in that year.

“I haven’t made up my mind whether I will do that or not,” Greene said before bringing up the possibility of being Trump’s running mate or a member of his Cabinet – should he win in 2024 – something she has been dreaming about for at least a year.

“I have a lot of things to think about. Am I going to be a part of President Trump’s Cabinet if he wins? Is it possible that I’ll be VP?” she said. She said that serving as Trump’s running mate would be “an honor” and that she would consider it “very, very heavily,” although it’s hard to imagine her saying no to Trump if he asked.

In August 2022, Greene told the Washington Examiner that she was “amazed” to be greeted with shouts of “MTG for VP” at Trump’s Bedminster golf course for a tournament.

“I’m not shy or hesitant about saying I believe he won the election in 2020. I totally believed it was rigged. I believe it was stolen. I objected on Jan. 6, and I would have objected again today and tomorrow if I could. And I think I can confidently say he’ll win a third presidential election in 2024,” she said at the time. “He is the leader of the Republican Party, no matter what anyone says, he flat-out is.”

In November 2022, NBC News reported that two sources close to Greene said that her “whole vision is to be vice president.” Former Trump aid Steve Bannon agreed.

“This is no shrinking violet. She’s ambitious — she’s not shy about that, nor should she be,” Bannon said. “She sees herself on the short list for Trump’s VP. Paraphrasing Cokie Roberts, when MTG looks in the mirror she sees a potential president smiling back.”

Earlier last year, Alex Jones of Infowars suggested she run for president in 2024 when she was on his show.

“Can we get you to run for president in the next few years, because I think you’re one of the few people that would probably have a better voting record and have a better chance at winning than even Trump,” Jones said as Greene beamed.

She laughed and said that she doesn’t “know what’s gonna happen” and reminded Jones that she is a “very strong supporter of President Trump.”

“But in the future we’ll definitely see what happens,” she said. “We’ll see what the people think about something like that.”
