Out Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten celebrated their third anniversary today by sharing heartwarming pictures and sweet messages for one another.

“Happy Anniversary, @PeteButtigieg! Was that really only three years?” Chasten tweeted with a winking emoji and pictures of the happy couple.

“Three years since @Chasten and I said ‘I do’ and I still can’t believe my good fortune,” Pete wrote. “Happy anniversary, love!”

Pete was the mayor of South Bend, Indiana when he announced that he was engaged to Chasten in a post on Facebook on December 14, 2017.

“He said yes! Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with Chasten Glezman,” then Mayor Pete wrote.

Devout Christians, they got married at the Cathedral of St. James in South Bend the following June 16.

Throughout his presidential campaign, Pete never shied away from discussing his marriage to Chasten and kissed his husband after he officially announced his campaign, which is a completely normal gesture for heterosexual candidates that still got a lot of attention from both supporters and anti-LGBTQ commentators.

Meanwhile, Chasten has built up an online presence of his own, authored a memoir, and has become a strong advocate of liberal ideals.

So it’s not surprising that the couple got a lot of love for their anniversary messages.
