Pete was the mayor of South Bend, Indiana when he announced that he was engaged to Chasten in a post on Facebook on December 14, 2017.
“He said yes! Can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with Chasten Glezman,” then Mayor Pete wrote.
Devout Christians, they got married at the Cathedral of St. James in South Bend the following June 16.
Throughout his presidential campaign, Pete never shied away from discussing his marriage to Chasten and kissed his husband after he officially announced his campaign, which is a completely normal gesture for heterosexual candidates that still got a lot of attention from both supporters and anti-LGBTQ commentators.
Meanwhile, Chasten has built up an online presence of his own, authored a memoir, and has become a strong advocate of liberal ideals.
So it’s not surprising that the couple got a lot of love for their anniversary messages.

Happy Anniversary to you, you’re a better example of marriage than most I’ve seen. Thanks to both of you for all of the sacrifices you’ve made for us. Now spend some time just being “you” together! Pete: thanks for introducing Chasten. Chasten: thanks for sharing Pete w/us.

I'm surprised it doesn't feel like ten, with all you've both done in that time!
May you have a mindbogglingly happy anniversary, you two. You deserve it. ❤️

You two have had the most consequential first 3 years of marriage of anyone I've ever known. Bless you both for recognizing how right you are for each other, and bless each of you for having the individual strength to take on this journey together.
