Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has a new conspiracy theory, and this one claims that the left is openly discussing assassinating Donald Trump. Greene said that she found the idea that he would be killed “terrifying” as she explained the theory, which involves a stock image of money and comments Madonna made in 2017.
“The left would lose their minds if someone on the right did this to Biden,” she said, sharing a bizarre story about Alex Soros – son of philanthropist George Soros – who shared an article on X about crime and inflation. That article included pictures of a bullethole in a windshield and some cash to illustrate the concepts of crime and inflation. Many in rightwing media are now claiming that the fact that the cash in the stock image added up to $47 shows that it’s a reference to Trump (even though Trump was the 45th president) and that the bullethole is meant to be a threat against Trump.

Biden used a few Republicans’ images in his video to show GOP extremism. She was one of them.
“But the left has always threatened Trump’s life,” Greene continued. “Remember Madonna thought a lot about blowing up the WH.”

“Not new. Terrifying. And wrong. It just shows this election isn’t going to be normal at all.”
George Soros is a Jewish billionaire philanthropist who is often featured in rightwing conspiracy theories. His son is also a philanthropist and shared an article from The Atlantic entitled “The Great Normalization” by Rogé Karma, which discussed trends in crime and inflation. The featured image in that article was a composite image of a bullethole in a windshield and some cash. That composite image automatically showed on X when Alex Soros shared the article.
While it’s pretty clear that Alex Soros was sharing an article that had a stock image in it, that didn’t stop the right from claiming it was a death threat.
“They want him gone – no matter the cost,” read a story in the influential Gateway Pundit. “Alex Soros is currently facing scrutiny due to his recent tweet sharing a post from the far-left The Atlantic that features a bullet hole and a sum of $47.”
“Being subtle like a brick through a window the billionaire leftist posts a picture of a ‘Bullet Hole’ and ‘$47.’ President Donald Trump is going to be the 47th President.”
The conspiracy theory apparently doesn’t take into account the fact that Democrats do not believe that Trump will be the 47th president or the fact that the image of the cash – credited to Getty – was likely created by someone who did not know that it would end up in the Atlantic article or in Alex Soros’s tweet.
Regarding Madonna, Greene was referring to a speech the diva made at the 2017 Women’s March in D.C. where she said that she thought about “blowing up the White House.” Reuters at the time described her speech as “profanity-laced.”
“I am not a violent person,” Madonna later wrote on Instagram. “I spoke in metaphor and I shared two ways of looking at things — one was to be hopeful, and one was to feel anger and outrage, which I have personally felt.”
