Joe Biden strikes out at Marjorie Taylor Greene in campaign announcement & she’s not happy

President Joe Biden announced his 2024 reelection campaign this morning with a three-minute video entitled “Let’s Finish the Job.”

In part of the video devoted to showing how extreme Republicans are, images of the January 6 Insurrection are shown, followed by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) getting a pat on the shoulder from Donald Trump, and the infamous image of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) in a white fur coat shouting “Liar” at Biden’s State of the Union address in February.

“But you know around the country, MAGA extremists are lining up to take on those bedrock freedoms,” Biden says in the voiceover. “Cutting Social Security that you’ve paid for your entire life while cutting taxes for the very wealthy. Dictating what healthcare decisions women can make. Banning books and telling people who they can love. All while making it more difficult for you to be able to vote.”

Greene apparently didn’t like being one of the far-right extremists that Biden used in his video to energize his base. She responded on Twitter.

“Republicans have ZERO plans to cut social security,” she wrote.

Republicans have for years campaigned on cuts to Social Security and Medicare. Former President George W. Bush campaigned on Social Security cuts and privatization in 2004 but failed to get a bill through Congress. Former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan made the cuts central to his “Roadmap for America.” More recently, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, called for sunsetting programs like Social Security and Medicare every five years so that they would have to be renegotiated by Congress twice a decade. The White House has since released a list of Republicans advocating cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

About the claim that Republicans want to end abortion rights – and skipping over his claim about Republicans wanting to cut taxes for “the very wealthy” – Greene wrote: “Abortion is not women’s healthcare, it kills a baby no matter how Democrats wordsmith it.” She effectively conceded that point.

Biden referenced LGBTQ+ equality when he said that Republicans are “banning books and telling people who they can love.” The latter of those two is likely a reference to the Supreme Court potentially overturning Obergefell v. Hodges and how the majority of Republicans voted against marriage equality last year as Congress passed the Respect for Marriage Act. Greene herself said that the bill was proof that Democrats “turned their back on God” and that she voted against it because “I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman and that’s how God created it.”

Moreover, the current Republican Party platform – which the GOP’s official website directs people to on its “About” page – states, “Traditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society and has for millennia been entrusted with rearing children and instilling cultural values. We condemn the Supreme Court’s ruling in United States v. Windsor, which wrongly removed the ability of Congress to define marriage policy in federal law. We also condemn the Supreme Court’s lawless ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges…. In Obergefell, five unelected lawyers robbed 320 million Americans of their legitimate constitutional authority to define marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The Court twisted the meaning of the Fourteenth Amendment beyond recognition.”

Now Greene claims that Republicans “aren’t telling people who to love” and then changed the topic to gender-affirming care for trans youth: “We want to protect kids from the Democrat approved child genital mutilation medical industry.” Major medical associations like the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, and the American Psychological Association support gender-affirming care.

“Shame on Joe Biden for lying and selfishly deciding to run for re-election just as we are exposing how the Biden’s have gotten rich by influence peddling,” she wrote. “Joe himself has already proven he’s the worst president in history, now we have to prove how corrupt Joe Biden really is.”
