Lauren Boebert blames Barbra Streisand for making her flee her congressional district

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) announced last week that she would be running for reelection in a different congressional district in 2024 as her chances of winning look slimmer and slimmer in her original congressional district.

And now she has a new excuse for switching districts: Barbra Streisand, apparently, made her do it.

In a video posted to social media, Boebert announced last week that she would not seek reelection in Colorado’s Third Congressional District, which makes up large swaths of the rural western part of the state, and would instead run in Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District, which includes the rural eastern part of the state. Boebert currently lives in the Third but said that she would move to the Fourth.

Over the weekend, she said in an interview that it’s Hollywood’s fault for funding her likely Democratic opponent in the Third, Adam Frisch. She said she “will not allow dark money” to “steal this seat.”

“It’s coming from Hollywood when you have Barbra Streisand coming in and donating to the Democrat, when you have Ryan Reynolds coming in and donating to the Democrat,” she said this past Saturday on Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast. “It shows you that Hollywood is trying to buy their way into Congress.”

“But we need a strong voice there and we have to shut down the Hollywood elites who are trying to buy my current district,” Boebert continued. “There has been close to $10 million poured into this district to buy the seat, and Colorado Third District is not for sale.”

Streisand donated $1000 to Frisch’s campaign last year, according to FEC filings, The Hill reports. Reynolds donated $500. It’s not clear why her leaving the district would make it easier for a Republican to win in it, unless Boebert believes that she is a particularly weak Republican candidate.

Bannon asked Boebert if she believed that by switching districts “that money will cease and you will give a, you will give um a MAGA candidate a shot to win in Colorado’s Third” and she said that’s “exactly correct.”

“They do not have policies they’re running on, they’re just running against Lauren Boebert,” she said.

Those same Hollywood donors could donate to her opponents in the Fourth, where she will face a primary battle, but the Fourth is significantly more conservative than the Third. The Third voted for Donald Trump over President Joe Biden by a six-point margin in 2020, while the Fourth voted for Trump by a 16-point margin that year.

Moreover, Boebert almost lost to her opponent in 2020 despite the Third’s conservative bend, winning the election by 546 votes, less than one percent of the votes cast. She has been embroiled in scandals since then, including when she was kicked out of a performance of Beetlejuice the musical after she vaped in near a pregnant woman, groped her then-boyfriend while children were present, and generally raised a ruckus by “laughing and singing too loud.”

Colorado’s Fourth Congressional District is currently represented by Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), a member of the far-right Freedom Caucus in the House. He announced his retirement last year, and there are at least four candidates in the district’s GOP primary race.

“If you can’t win in your home, you can’t win here,” one of those candidates, state Rep. Richard Holtorf (R), said when Boebert announced her switch to the Fourth.
