Actor Jodie Sweetin is not pleased that her new movie is set to air on the Great American Family network, where her Fuller House co-star Candace Cameron Bure is chief creative officer.

Last week, People reported that Sweetin’s upcoming film, Craft Me a Romance, would be part of Great American Family’s fall lineup, a fact that apparently came as a surprise to the actor.

In response, Sweetin, a longtime LGBTQ+ ally, released a statement distancing herself from the network.

“Sometimes, we, as actors, don’t have control over which network buys the projects we are in nor are we a part of the process in which they get sold,” she said. “So I was very surprised to learn by reading about it in the press yesterday that the independent film I worked on over a year ago was sold to Great American Family.”

“I am disappointed, but in keeping with my mission of supporting the LGBTQ+ family, any potential or future money made from this sale will be donated to LGBTQ+ organizations,” she continued.

Great American Family, which launched in 2021, drew controversy late last year when Bure, who is outspoken about her conservative Christian faith, told the Wall Street Journal that the family-oriented channel would not air content featuring same-sex couples.

“I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” Bure said.

Bure later accused the media of fanning “flames of conflict and hate” by reporting on her quote, noting that she is called by her faith “to love all people… indiscriminately.” She blamed “the toxic climate in our culture right now” for painting her as anti-LGBTQ+.

But her comments reportedly caused a rift in her relationship with her Full House co-star. After Sweetin expressed support on social media for celebs like JoJo Siwa who criticized Bure’s stance as anti-LGBTQ+, Bure reportedly unfollowed Sweetin on Instagram.

A source told ET in late 2022 that “Jodie does not agree with Candace’s remarks and wanted to show where she stands,” adding that Bure was “upset that Jodie chose to do this in a public way instead of talking to her one-on-one.”

More recently, Bure has fended off accusations that she asked the writers on Fuller House to remove a queer character played by trans actor Miss Benny from the Netflix sitcom.
