Anti-LGBTQ Christian nationalist Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has filed for divorce from her husband of 20 years, Jayson, a man who once exposed himself to two women, one of whom was just 16, in a bowling alley. The couple also has four children together, who they allow to play near loaded rifles. The couple also owned a gun-themed restaurant that poisoned 80 people, giving them “abdominal cramping” and “diarrhea.”

“It is with a heavy weight on my heart that I have filed for divorce from my husband. I am grateful for our years of marriage together and for our beautiful children, all of whom deserve privacy and love as we work through this process,” Boebert said in a statement on Tuesday. “I’ve always been faithful in my marriage, and I believe strongly in marriage, which makes this announcement that much more difficult.”

Her statement mentioned “irreconcilable differences,” and her divorce petition calls their marriage “irretrievably broken,” according to the Colorado Sun. She is seeking parental-decision making power and child support for their four sons.

Boebert’s husband was drinking beer and cleaning a gun when he was served the divorce paper on April 25, according to an affidavit from process server Mike Estep that was cited by The Daily Beast.

“Once he learned that he was being served with Dissolution of Marriage papers he was extremely angry. I tried to hand him the documents but [he] did not take them. He started yelling and using profanities, and told me that I was trespassing and that he was calling the Sheriff’s Office,” Estep testified. “I told him I was leaving the documents on the chair outside of the door, he closed the door then let the dogs out.”

Rep. Boebert called parts of the Daily Beast‘s reporting and Estep’s story “slanderous” and “a complete lie,” saying that her soon-to-be-ex-husband doesn’t sit around cleaning guns and doesn’t drink beer out of a glass. She also said the dogs were already in the yard and didn’t endanger the process server.

Jayson Boebert said, “The divorce is sad, I did not expect this, I love her with every bit of my heart, she has been my soul mate and she is the mother of my children. We have been through a lot together and I just want her to be happy, so it’s whatever she wants.”

In her memoir My American Life, Boebert wrote that she “immediately” fell in love with her husband upon meeting him at age 16 while she worked at Burger King. He impregnated her, and she had her first son at age 18. Her eldest son impregnated his teenage girlfriend through premarital sex.

In February 2004, a year before they married, Jayson Boebert was booked on a domestic violence charge for allegedly striking, shoving, or kicking Lauren Boebert. In May 2004, Lauren Boebert was charged with third-degree assault, criminal mischief, and underage drinking charges for scratching Jayson Boebert’s face and chest and trashing his residence.

Lauren Boebert is the third most responsible person driving anti-LGBTQ+ hate speech on Twitter. Among her many bigoted statements, Boebert has accused LGBTQ people of “spitting in God’s face,” “butchering” children, and “perverting” the nation.

Last November, Boebert narrowly won re-election in her district by just 547 votes.
