Former Trump legal advisor Jenna Ellis called out Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten Buttigieg “sexual perverts” because they adopted two children.

Ellis was responding to a tweet from someone who said he was “saddened” that Mike Pence mocked Buttigieg with a gay joke for taking time off from work to care for his sick child.

“This is Pete Buttigieg and his family, [heart emoji] if you support them!” the Twitter user wrote.

“This isn’t a family,” Ellis responded. “It’s two sexual perverts and a child that deserves an actual family: a mom and a dad.”

“Children’s rights matter. Kids are not commodities,” she wrote, likely a reference to how the Buttigieges adopted their twins.

She got pushback on Twitter.

Twitter has already blocked her tweet in at least some countries that regulate hate speech online, like France.

Two weeks ago at the Gridiron Club dinner, Pence said that Buttigieg went on “maternity leave” in 2021 when his two kids were born.

“Pete is the only person in human history to have a child and everyone else gets postpartum depression,” Pence joked.

Chasten Buttigieg responded with a picture of one of his kids, born premature, being held by Pete Buttigieg.

“An honest question for you, Mike Pence, after your attempted joke this weekend,” Chasten Buttigieg wrote. “If your grandchild was born prematurely and placed on a ventilator at two months old – their tiny fingers wrapped around yours as the monitors beep in the background – where would you be?”

Ellis was announced as a member of Trump’s legal team in 2020. Before that she presented herself as a “constitutional law attorney” in TV appearances even though she had never taken any federal cases and worked as a deputy district attorney in Weld County, Colorado, from 2012 to 2013 generally working on traffic cases.

She was fired from that job six months in and went into private practice before joining the faculty of Colorado Christian University. She taught undergraduate classes and self-published a book called The Legal Basis for a Moral Constitution: A Guide for Christians to Understand America’s Constitutional Crisis.

Ellis has supported conversion therapy in the past and claimed that the Respect for Marriage Act – which requires the federal and state governments to respect same-sex and interracial marriages performed in other states – would end marriage equality entirely somehow.

She has argued that same-sex marriage will lead to pedophilia, which was perhaps a precursor to her calling the Buttigieges “sexual perverts” with no evidence other than their sexualities.
