One Million Moms (OMM) is “alerting all parents” over the latest Scooby-Doo straight-to-digital-download movie Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! because Velma has a crush on another woman in the movie.
“Please be aware that Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! portrays the familiar character of Velma as a lesbian,” OMM – which is a project of the SPLC designated hate group American Family Association – breathlessly warns its followers. “Make sure to share this information with your friends and family to guarantee they are not blindsided by this drastic twist in a familiar cast of characters.”
In Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!, Velma meets a character named Coco and instantly develops a crush on her, noting her positive traits like “incredible glasses,” “obviously brilliant,” and “loves animals.” Velma’s glasses fog up – as is the norm for cartoon nerds who fall in love – and she says her catchphrase, “Jinkies.”
OMM says that this is tantamount to kids being “confronted with content regarding sexual orientation,” as if straight people don’t have a sexual orientation.

“Sadly, issues of this nature are repeatedly being introduced too early and too soon,” the site continues. “This type of indoctrination of our children is extremely common yet unnecessary.”
OMM has set up a petition that they claim over 11,000 people have signed saying that they and their families will boycott Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!
“It is clear to me that Warner Bros. places more importance on homosexual indoctrination than it does on the well-being and healthful nurturing of children,” the petition reads. “Warner Bros. cannot be trusted to provide clean, wholesome entertainment to families.”
Other conservatives have spoken out against gay Velma, including a Fox News commentator who said that Velma’s crush on a woman is “offensive” and compared it to Shaggy and Scooby having sex. A host on Newsmax said that he didn’t know if Velma having a crush on a woman made her a trans woman as he bellowed about how this proves Scooby has “gone woke.” And a rightwing podcaster called gay Velma “appropriation” of heterosexual culture.
