It’s less than two weeks since Halloween, but retailers are rushing to put out Christmas merchandise and Target is no exception. Stores are starting to gear up for holiday shoppers, offering home decorations, gift ideas, and more.

But one of Target’s Christmas decor items is getting lots of attention online: a “gay nutcracker.”

The retailer, a proud LGBTQ ally, has withstood years of criticism from the right for their outspoken shows of support. Employees march in Pride parades, corporate policies are accommodating for customers and staff, and they stock LGBTQ-themed merchandise year-round and not just during June.

But they’ve taken things to another level with the piece of holiday home decor according to Twitter.

The brown-skinned wooden man sports a rainbow hat with a glittery jewel decoration and holds a Pride flag.  2021 is emblazoned across the bottom.

The figures, part of German folklore and tradition, were holiday gifts meant to symbolize good luck and wealth. While they were originally functional, most modern versions are purely decorative.

The gay nutcracker isn’t sold online and finding them in stores is getting tricky if the folks online begging to know where to find one is any indication. You can look up whether or not any locations near you have any left in stock.

“Dear Internet,” Dr. Sami Schalk tweeted. “I really want this Pride Nutcracker for our second annual Glitzmas this year, but every @Target  in the immediate Madison area is sold out. Find me one?”

“okay if any of y’all see this in a target near you i cannot find it ANYWHERE and it’s not available for shipping but i need it for my liberal nutcracker collector mother PLEASE lmk i will pay you for it plus shipping plus extra,” another tweeted.

As supplies dwindle nationwide, time is running out to sleigh the holidays with a gay nutcracker or you’ll have to resort to complaining about “corporate pinkwashing” online.
