Chick-fil-A

Chick-fil-A is one of the largest fast food restaurant chain in America with more than 2300 restaurants specially in chicken sandwiches, et al. Deeply religious chief operating officer Dan T. Cathy has made several public statements condemning marriage equality, and the company has donated money to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes,Salvation Army, and the Paul Anderson Youth Home, organizations with a history of opposing equal rights for gays. In late 2019, after some agreements to open new locations fell through because of the chain’s funding of these groups, they announced they would end their donations, and focus only on organizations addressing education, homelessness, and hunger. A huge right wing “Christian” backlash ensued after which Cathy said no criticism of the groups was intended. Some interpreted this to mean the company would continue to support them, and both sides have been watching to see what the chain will actually do.
