Now that they have overridden one veto from the governor, the Arkansas legislature is not letting up on the gas pedal – and is determined to make the state the nation’s leader in anti-trans legislation.

Fresh off overturning the Republican governor’s veto to enact one of the most anti-trans legislation in the country, Arkansas lawmakers now want to protect people who deliberately misgender and deadname others.

Trans rights advocates celebrated when Gov. Asa Hutchinson vetoed this bill yesterday. The legislature overrode his veto today.

This is the third anti-LGBTQ bill passed in Arkansas this year and has been called “the single most extreme anti-trans law to ever pass through a state legislature.”

The governor thinks giving doctors, nurses, and EMTs the right to object to treating patients is fine because of “the federal laws that prohibit discrimination.” Without the Equality Act, that doesn’t automatically include LGBTQ people.

This is just one of three anti-LGBTQ bills that the state legislature sent to the governor.

The only thing that could stop these states from discriminating against transgender youth is their Republican governors.
