Donald Trump is eyeing Elon Musk for an advisory role in his administration should he win the 2024 election.

According to sources familiar with the conversation, Musk, a known transphobe and the owner of the website X (formerly known as Twitter), and billionaire investor Nelson Peltz chatted with the former president and newly convicted felon about a plan to “invest in a ‘data-driven’ project to avert voter fraud,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

Furthermore, Trump and Musk have discussed how Musk could have “formal input over policies related to the economy and border security.” It has been reported that Musk and the former president meet several times a month to talk about technology, science, and immigration.

A Trump campaign official told The Hill that “Trump will be the only voice of what role an individual plays in his presidency. But it has been widely reported, and is demonstrated in a number of ways, that many of the nation’s important leaders in technology and innovation are concerned with the damage done to their industry by Biden’s failure to handle our economy and his moves to overburden innovators with government bureaucracy and unrelenting regulation.”

Additionally, Peltz and Musk discussed with Trump an ongoing effort among elite circles to dissuade influential U.S. business leaders from supporting President Joe Biden.

Musk has been criticized many times for his transphobia. When he purchased Twitter in October of 2022, the Human Rights Campaign said that they were “very concerned about Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. Musk has pledged to restore the accounts of dangerous people who push extremism and disinformation. When this happens, Twitter – a place where many marginalized people, including LGBTQ+ people, find both community and face an onslaught of hate – will quickly become even more hostile.”

Musk long used his X presence to ridicule so-called “woke culture” and to mock people who use pronouns, which is everyone. Under his leadership, X has verified neo-Nazis who have paid to subscribe to the site. In February, when X reinstated a policy intended to stop misgendering and deadnaming, Musk told hate influencer Chaya Raichik that she “would not get suspended” for deadnaming and misgendering three trans individuals.

Most recently, X was found to be the worst social media app for queer people, according to a report from GLAAD.
