Fox writer calls Marjorie Taylor Greene an “idiot” who is trying to destroy the GOP

The GOP is continuing to turn on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), and now even Fox News is running op-eds blasting her “drama queen energy” and “self-serving showmanship,” as columnist Liz Peek wrote on Wednesday.

Both Peek and Greene are vehement Trump supporters, but their collective goal of electing him has far from united them. The columnist wrote that Greene needs to direct her energy toward Democrats “and stop trying to defeat her own party,” referring to her vendetta against House Speaker Mike Johnson and her continued attempt to oust him from the speakership.

Peek acknowledged the issues within the party but said Greene “would rather burn down the House, metaphorically speaking, than work towards the greater good.” Peek clarified that for her, the greater good is defined as defeating Joe Biden in the 2024 election and said Greene “may well facilitate” Democrats winning control of Congress.

“Last October, other GOP malcontents ejected Kevin McCarthy from the Speakership of the House,” Peek continued. “It was not a smart or productive move; several House Republicans have since resigned, disgusted by the rancor and self-aggrandizement of those who threw the chamber into convulsions. As a result, what had been a slim majority is now on life support, making governing that much more difficult.”

She added that McCarthy’s ousting also “torched the public’s view of the GOP.”

“The internal squabbles of the party need to stop,” she said. “If Marjorie Taylor Greene and others want to oppose aid to Ukraine or the FISA bill, they can vote against it. That’s how democracy works.” She then spoke directly to Greene, telling the anti-LGBTQ+ lawmaker, “Get over yourself.”

Greene has been on a tear against Johnson since he allowed a House vote on the $1.2 trillion government funding bill that President Joe Biden signed at the end of March — which avoided a government shutdown.

Angry that Republicans were forced to vote on Democratic priorities like “funding the trans agenda,” as Greene put it, the far-right lawmaker filed a motion to remove Johnson from the speakership. Johnson has only held the role for a few months after the Republican party ousted its former Speaker, California Rep. Kevin McCarthy, late last year. Greene has not said if or when she will actually bring the motion up for a vote.

Since then, she has found a myriad of other reasons to accuse Johnson of being in the pocket of Democrats.  She even accused Democrats of blackmailing Johnson into supporting their priorities, including “the trans agenda on children.” Johnson is virulently anti-LGBTQ+ and used to work for a hate group.

But like Peek, Greene’s fellow Republicans are not at all on her side and have been speaking out against her in droves. Many have publicly scolded the lawmaker for bringing more chaos to the House, and they have questioned who the new speaker would even be since Johnson was already the party’s fifth choice after McCarthy’s ouster.

Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY), for example, called Greene’s efforts “a mistake and an absurdity.”

Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) added, “To think that one of our Republican colleagues would call for his ouster right now — it’s really, it’s abhorrent to me, and I oppose it.”

Earlier this month, Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) delivered perhaps the most scathing indictment of Greene’s actions, telling CNN, “Nobody cares what Marjorie Taylor Greene says or thinks. And she’s a one-man show, she’s grandstanding and she wants attention.”
