Donald Trump continues to be terrified that Taylor Swift will endorse President Joe Biden and sway the election with her massive influence, claiming in a recent social media post that Swift should be on his side after all he has done for her.

“I signed and was responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, his conservative social media platform. “Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will. There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money.”

He then threw in, “Besides that, I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!”

The Music Modernization Act “updates the copyright law to make statutory licensing more fair for creators and more efficient for digital music providers,” according to the U.S. Copyright Office. Trump signed it into law on October 11, 2018 after the legislation received bipartisan support in Congress. The Independent reported that other than signing the bill, Trump had “no involvement.”

But now he’s taking full credit for it and claiming Swift owes him one.

Republicans have whipped themselves into a panicked frenzy over Swift’s potential endorsement of Biden – something that is more than likely considering the pop superstar endorsed him in 2020.

A recent New York Times article reported that Biden aides see Swift as “the endorsement of their wildest dreams,” and her massive influence on elections has already been established. Last year, 35,000 people registered to vote in response to an Instagram post from Swift encouraging them to do so. The Times speculated that fundraising appeals from Swift could bring in millions of dollars for Biden.

All of this has led some Republicans to beg her not to get involved. One commentator – Fox News’s Jesse Waters – even declared her a Pentagon psyop. A “psyop” refers to military actions used to control people’s beliefs and perceptions and is often a feature of right-wing conspiracy theories.

The panic intensified when the Kansas City Chiefs – on which Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, is a star player – made it to the Super Bowl. Many Republicans became convinced the entire Super Bowl was rigged for a Chiefs victory so that Swift and Kelce could endorse Biden in the celebratory aftermath.

“I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month,” wrote former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on X. “And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months.”

Trump then dialed up the drama by reportedly declaring a “holy war” against Swift and claiming he’s not afraid because he has more fans than she does.

After the Chiefs did indeed achieve a Super Bowl victory Sunday night, President Biden mocked the Republican conspiracy theories by posting a photo of himself with lasers shooting out of his eyes, a riff on the “Dark Brandon” meme, where Dark Brandon is Biden’s laser-eyed alter ego.

“Just like we drew it up,” he wrote.
