Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has devoted a large part of her tenure in Congress to attacking LGBTQ+ people, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to avoid using dated queer slang while addressing an LGBTQ+ icon and ally. And people noticed the bizarre contradiction.
Boebert tweeted “Yass Queen!!” at Dolly Parton over the weekend. She was likely referring to Parton’s performance at the Cowboys/Commanders game this weekend, but she also could have been listening to Parton’s new album Rockstar. It’s not uncommon for Boebert to tweet a response to something without explaining what she’s responding to.

“I just want everybody to be treated good.”
Parton’s fans noted that she probably wouldn’t appreciate Boebert’s words of support, considering her long support for LGBTQ+ and other progressive causes. Others noted that the phrase “yas queen” was historically used by LGBTQ+ people of color, a group of people Boebert hasn’t been very supportive of in the past.
