George Santos thinks GOP will definitely boot him out of the House

Out gay Rep. George Santos (R-NY) said he expects to be expelled from the U.S. House soon, despite surviving two previous attempts to oust him from the lower congressional chamber. Santos also said his Republican House colleagues are “more worried about getting drunk every night with the next lobbyists they’re going to screw” than doing their jobs.

“I know I’m going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor,” Santos said during a three-hour-long conversation on X Spaces last Friday, according to The Hill. Santos’ comment referenced the resolution House Ethics Committee Chair Michael Guest (R-MS) introduced less than 24 hours after his committee issued a November 16 report accusing Santos of spending campaign funds on luxury goods, OnlyFans subscriptions, and cosmetic Botox treatments.

“I have done the math over and over,” Santos told conservative broadcaster Monica Matthews. “It doesn’t look really good.” If Santos is ousted, he’d be the sixth representative ever expelled from the House as well as the first to be expelled without having been found guilty of a crime by a court.

“I want to see them set this precedent,” Santos said. “Because this precedent sets a new era of due process, which means you are guilty until proven innocent, we will take your accusations and use it to smear, to mangle, to destroy you, and remove you from society. That is what they are doing with this.”

While nearly 60 House Republicans have indicated their support to expel Santos, it will take 80 Republicans and all Democrats to vote for his expulsion in order to reach the two-thirds chamber majority needed to oust him, Politico reported.

Santos didn’t address the specific accusations made by the House Ethics Committee’s report but called them “slanderous,” “designed to force me out of my seat,”  and “some of the craziest s**t I’ve ever read in my life.”

“[House members] all act like they’re in ivory towers with white pointy hats and they’re untouchable, [but] there’s felons galore [in the U.S. House],” he continued, according to CBS News. “There’s people with all sorts of sheisty backgrounds. And all of a sudden, George Santos is the Mary Magdalene of United States Congress.”

Mary Magdalene is a Biblical figure who followed Jesus after he exorcised seven demons from her. She is erroneously misremembered as a sex worker despite the Bible making no reference to her ever being one.

During Santos’ Friday night conversation on X Spaces, out Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) told Santos, “Why not just do the right thing and resign? We’re going to vote to expel you, George.”

Santos replied, “That’s fine. You’re saying it like I’m scared of it, Robert. I’m not scared of it.”

Santos has survived two prior attempts to expel him from the House. In July, out Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) and other House Democrats introduced a resolution to censure Santos, and in October, Santos survived an attempt led by his fellow New York Republicans to expel him from the House. Santos announced that he wouldn’t seek reelection shortly after the committee released its report.

“I’m not running for reelection because I don’t want to work with a bunch of hypocrites,” he said. “It’s gross,” he continued, “[They] are more worried about getting drunk every night with the next lobbyists they’re going to screw [than doing their jobs]…. They want to kick me out of a job they didn’t put me in. I’m not leaving. Come hell or high water, it’s done when I say it’s done.”

Santos has admitted to fabricating large parts of his personal history during his election campaign. He is facing 23 federal charges of campaign finance fraud.
