Data for Progress has put out interesting results about Americans favorite queer celebrities – and the results differ dramatically when only LGBTQ+ people were asked.

While Ellen DeGeneres nabbed the top spot in the first poll, she dropped considerably amongst queer respondents. They favored RuPaul.

Out Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg also rated highly in the general poll but didn’t even make the list for LGBTQ+ Americans.

The general public also chose some of the most commonly known out celebrities like Elton John and Anderson Cooper. Neither of them made the cut for LGBTQ+ respondents.

Instead, LGBTQ+ Americans gave the top spot to RuPaul and added Lady Gaga, Freddie Mercury, and Lil Nas X.

RuPaul came in second in the general polling. Ellen barely registered with queer Americans, coming it at number five.

The power of general name recognition was most evident with Caitlyn Jenner’s inclusion in the general poll. The far-right former Olympian is one of the most despised transgender women in the queer community for her unabashed support of Donald Trump and anti-trans policies.

Earlier this year, she launched Fairness First, a PAC that aims “to fight the radical gender ideology, put parental rights at the forefront of education, and keep boys out of women’s sports.”

“Trans is not made up or fake, but it is oversaturated due to indoctrination and is the latest way the left is destroying the family unit — growing government, the indoctrination in the classroom, and the subsequent drastic increase in children being transitioned is a huge problem,” she said at the time.
