Wife of “family values” Republican files for divorce over his alleged sexual affairs

Rabidly anti-LGBTQ+ Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC) has reportedly admitted to numerous extramarital affairs despite touting himself a “family values” candidate, according to divorce court papers filed last Friday by Melody Duncan, his wife of 25 years and mother of their three children.

The court filings allege that the congressman told attendees of an August 28 “Faith and Freedom BBQ” about his “loving” marriage to his wife. The next day, he allegedly moved into the Washington D.C. home of his mistress, a woman named Liz Williams, where he now resides while continuing their extramarital sexual relationship, Melody Duncan claimed.

He’s gonna have to have a very uncomfortable discussion with his wife and three kids.

“Additionally defendant has admitted this adulterous relationship to many people, including the parties’ sons and members of his staff” as well as to others in South Carolina and the nation’s capital, the divorce court filings state.

The court filings didn’t identify the congressman’s other alleged lover. However, they said that the congressman is now repeating “a false narrative of a loveless marriage” to his wife “to justify the hypocrisy of his public statements, and his private actions.”

Jeff Duncan’s alleged affairs are notable primarily because the congressman of 13 years has repeatedly touted himself as a champion of “family values,” a Republican dog-whistle for being pro-forced birth and anti-LGBTQ+.

In 2015, Jeff Duncan cosponsored a proposed Constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage. He supports Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ “Don’t Say Gay” law — which forbids LGBTQ+ instruction in schools — and opposes gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth. He has also defended Libs of TikTok, a social media account whose posts have led to death and bomb threats against schools, businesses, children’s hospitals, educators, drag performers, and other medical and mental health professionals.

In May 2022, Jeff Duncan published an article entitled “Exposing the Left’s Destructive Education Agenda: They’re ‘Coming for Your Children.’” In the article, he said that the Left wants to expose schoolchildren to “sexually explicit indoctrination” including “radical sexual orientation and gender identity ideology.” His article also accused Disney of “essentially being the lobbying arm for the left’s LGBT agenda.”

His soon-to-be ex-wife is seeking alimony, possession, and exclusive residences in South Carolina and Montana. She also wants to give the congressman sole financial responsibility for outstanding debts and health insurance for Melody Duncan and their kids.

Jeff Duncan didn’t respond to numerous requests for comment from The Index-Journal newspaper in his home state.
