Barack Obama’s half-brother called him an anti-gay slur on social media

Former President Barack Obama’s half-brother Malik Obama – a longtime supporter of Donald Trump – apparently has so much contempt for Barack Obama that he called him an anti-gay slur on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

He posted a picture earlier this week of him and his little brother, calling him a “Fake ass,” a “snake,” and a “SNOB.” Someone replied, asking if Barack Obama is gay.

He said he opposed book bans, and she responded by sharing out-of-context pictures from sex education books.

“A fa***t,” the older Obama brother wrote.

It’s unclear why the X user asked if Barack Obama is gay – he has been married to a woman for over 30 years, has two daughters with her, and has never publicly said that he’s queer at all – but it could be related to news that he questioned his sexuality and gender identity when he was much younger.

“My mind is androgynous to a great extent and I hope to make it more so until I can think in terms of people, not women as opposed to men,” he allegedly wrote in a 1982 letter to Alex McLean, his girlfriend at the time. The letter is at Emory University and there are no publicly available photographs of its full text, but one person claims to have transcribed it by hand. “But, in returning to the body, I see that I have been made a man, and physically in life, I choose to accept that contingency.”

“In regard to homosexuality, I must say that I believe this is an attempt to remove oneself from the present, a refusal perhaps to perpetuate the endless farce of earthly life. You see, I make love to men daily, but in the imagination.”

Malik and Barack Obama have the same father but different mothers. Malik Obama was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, currently lives in Kenya but visits the U.S. frequently, and is a dual U.S./Kenya citizen. He has supported Donald Trump since 2016.

He has gotten attention on the right for fueling anti-Barack Obama conspiracy theories, including claiming that Barack Obama was born in Kenya and not in the U.S., even though his birth certificate shows that he was born in Hawaii.

In 2020, Malik Obama posted a fake birth certificate to social media showing that Barack Obama was born in the “Republic of Kenya” in 1961, even though the Republic of Kenya was founded in 1964 after getting its independence from Great Britain in 1963. The seal on the fake birth certificate said “South Australia.”

Malik Obama then called his little brother “Stingy as s**t!” when people called him out on social media for posting a fake birth certificate.

Earlier this year, Malik Obama posted pictures of an old passport issued to “Barack Obama” that said that he was born in Nairobi. The passport actually belonged to Barack Obama, Sr., the men’s father, but many on the right said that it vindicated their claims that Barack Obama wasn’t born in the U.S.

Malik Obama later confirmed that it was his father’s passport when the Associated Press asked him about it.
