Marjorie Taylor Greene lashes out at rainbow flag as “symbol of aggression” against straight people

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is using increasingly violent rhetoric to attack LGBTQ+ people this month, calling the rainbow flag a “symbol of aggression” and telling conservative activists that trans women don’t identify as women and only want to attack cisgender women.

While Congressmember Greene has never been an ally to LGBTQ+ people, her rhetoric this past week has gotten noticeably more alarmist, suggesting people should defend themselves from LGBTQ+ people.

At the far-right organization Turning Point USA’s Young Women’s Leadership Summit this weekend, Greene told the audience that trans women don’t even identify as women, and they’re just lying so that they can attack cis women.

“You’re standing up against men – who are really a bunch of perverts – in your locker room and your bathroom, because they- listen, they wanna have sex with you,” she said. “That’s why they’re in there. That’s real.”

“They’re not saying, ‘Oh, I identify as a woman, and I’m only attracted to men,'” she said sarcastically. “That is a lie. These are sexual predators. They’re sexual predators.”

The next day she was talking to Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on his podcast. He played a clip of her complaining about the rainbow flag being flown at the hotel that hosted the organization’s conference.

“Shame on them! Shame on them for hanging that flag out there!” she said. “Because it shouldn’t be about what people do sexually that causes us to hang a flag somewhere.”

She said that gay people already have enough rights, including the right to vote and to buy houses, so now the rainbow flag is “a symbol of aggression” and is “grooming children to believe a complete lie that they can change their gender.”

“It’s perverted, it’s abhorrent, it’s evil, and it’s an attack on our children who are the most innocent among us and I’m completely disgusted with this,” Greene said.

On Twitter, her language was just as combative.

“The pride movement is not about rights for gay people anymore,” she said. “Every American has equal rights. [The rainbow flag] has become a symbol of aggression that should be concerning to all Americans.”

“This is an evil, perverted, and hyper sexualized agenda that is targeting kids and it must end!”

Despite her insistence that it’s just LGBTQ+ people who care about their sexuality, the conference that she was speaking on was described by Jezebel as a “Republican conference” that “tells young women to give up their dreams and their birth control.” Many of the speakers focused on young women’s sexuality, saying that they needed to get married and have heterosexual sex quickly so that they could have children, otherwise they’ll end up alone and sad.

“There are a lot of successful, 35-year-old orthopedic surgeons that have cats and not kids, and they’re very miserable,” Kirk himself declared as he berated the young women in attendance.

Speaker Alex Clark asked the young women at the conference: “Who in this room has decided to ditch hormonal birth control?” She then told them to use “natural” methods of birth control while also denouncing daycare as evil.

Greene did not seem bothered that she spoke at a conference that was very focused on discussing sexual matters with young women and telling them that their value depends on their sex lives and how they manage their relationships.

People disagreed with her on Twitter.
