Should comedian Bill Murray be chosen as a non-partisan House Speaker? According to one congressman, that might be an easier lift than Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

While most Democrats are laughing at House Republicans’ public meltdown after gaining the majority, out Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) cracked a joke that had all of D.C. laughing.

Pocan, who was captured by Columbian guerillas and used magic to stay safe, is one of the funniest members of the House. He regularly uses humor to defuse situations or make his point. And with the GOP in disarray as they attempted to choose the new speaker, it was too much for him to resist.

Republicans “should probably nominate Bill Murray at this point,” Pocan cracked to Politico. “I think we’re kind of enjoying watching this. There’s something about it. It’s interesting.”

While the video of disgraced out Rep. George Santos (R-NY) sitting alone and picking his nose went viral on social media, the multiple votes to elect McCarthy as speaker were not only jaw-dropping, the results were similar to Santos’ nasal pecadillo. As of publication, McCarthy has lost five attempts to become third in line for the presidency. He, like Santos, keeps bleeding support.

“The Republican Party is almost non-functional right now,” Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX) told the outlet. “They can’t even agree on who should lead them. It’s not just a matter for the Republicans in Congress. It affects the whole country, and we can’t even take a vote on anything else until they decide who the speaker is.”
