“Today, I did it.”

That’s how Jan Moore began a heartwarming TikTok video explaining a simple, but momentous moment in the 84-year-old lesbian’s life.

Moore, Australian by birth, lives in Canada with her partner of nearly 30 years, Linda Ford. The couple tied the knot in 2018.

Despite their longtime relationship, one word had eluded Moore in all the years they’d been together. And it came to her in the most ordinary interaction possible. On the phone, with her bank.

“I can’t believe that it’s taken me so long to do it,” Moore wondered in her Aussie accent, accompanied by a heart-tugging TikTok soundtrack.

Then she got to the good part: “I had a phone call from my bank, just wanting a few answers, and they said to me, ‘And who is Linda?’ And I said, ‘My wife.’ ‘Oh.’ And we went on and conducted our business. And I hung up the phone, and I realized, that it’s the first time — and I’m 84 and bit years old — that I’ve said ‘My wife.’ So I thought it was worthwhile recording it. Well, call me dumb for not saying it before, but I guess it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Guess what? I’m going to be doing it again.”

1.8 million views later, hearts were melting around the world. The comments, more than 11,000 of them, captured the love.
