Perry Greene, the husband of anti-LGBTQ Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), has filed for divorce after 27 years of marriage.

According to court documents obtained by The Daily Beast, Perry Greene describes their marriage as “irretrievably broken” and says that they have been separated for some time.

“Marriage is a wonderful thing and I’m a firm believer in it,” Marjorie Taylor Greene said in a statement. “Our society is formed by a husband and wife creating a family to nurture and protect. Together, Perry and I formed our family and raised three great kids. He gave me the best job title you can ever earn: Mom. I’ll always be grateful for how great of a dad he is to our children. This is a private and personal matter and I ask that the media respect our privacy at this time.”

The filing asks the court to keep documents under seal, saying that the divorce proceedings will contain “sensitive personal and financial information.”

Earlier this year, Rep. Greene voted against the Respect for Marriage Act, a bill that would codify federal recognition of interracial and same-sex marriages performed by states should the Supreme Court overturn its decisions that legalized marriage equality and interracial marriages in all 50 states.

“I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman and that’s how God created it,” she said when she voted against it in July. It’s unclear if she and her husband were already separated at that point.

Earlier this week, Rep. Greene voiced support for Italy’s new fascist leader, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Meloni used to the the president of the group Youth Action, which fought against many 20th Century advances in civil rights and civil liberties, including expedited divorce proceedings.
