Heartstopper actress Yasmin Finney was on the receiving end of some vile transphobic comments while at a restaurant, but her fans are loving her clap back.

Finney, best known for playing Elle Argent on the Netflix teen drama, said that she was at a restaurant when someone she didn’t know shouted at her: “Are you a boy or a girl?”

“Today some women shouted this in front of all of her peers while I was about to leave a restaurant,” Finney wrote. “Erm [I don’t know] what do I look like to you?”

She posted a picture of herself with a hairstyle, make-up, and clothes that read as culturally feminine.

But Finney wasn’t expecting the woman to say what she said next: “I’m not transphobic, I have trans friends.”

“At this point I’ve given up hope, lol,” Finney wrote.

The British actress’s fans sent supportive messages.
