David Barstow, Susanne Craig, and Russ Buettner are the reporters named in the lawsuit. The three won the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting in 2019 for their expose of Donald’s financial dealings and potential tax fraud.
The lawsuit alleges the reporters convinced Mary to “smuggle records out of her attorney’s office and turn them over to the Times.”
“I knocked on Mary Trump’s door. She opened it. I think they call that journalism,” Craig quipped on Twitter after being sued.
“I think he is a fucking loser, and he is going to throw anything against the wall he can,” Mary said after the filing. “It’s desperation. The walls are closing in and he is throwing anything against the wall that will stick. As is always the case with Donald, he’ll try and change the subject.”
Earlier this month, Mary, a clinical psychologist, examined her uncle’s “bizarre” decision to provide commentary for a boxing match on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers.
“It’s entirely in keeping in what Donald always does,” she said during a CNN interview. “He doesn’t understand dignity. He doesn’t understand tragedy. He doesn’t understand anything that doesn’t pertain directly to him. And he will always push the envelope as long as he’s allowed to.”
