Lil Nas X, the rapper behind hits “Old Town Road” and “Holiday,” is now a favorite target for anti-LGBTQ people and conservatives. Becoming one of the most popular music acts right now has made a lot of things different for the out rapper.

This became evident when Nas dressed up as Nicki Minaj for Halloween to days of backlash, or when he posts images of him making out with himself, or when fans were surprised to find what appeared to be porn in the background of one of his posts.

Now, the latest example came when the rapper joked around with some of his fans online.

Nas, known for goofing around on the internet and trolling people, took questions via his Instagram Stories for a few days this week. The questions feature on Instagram Stories allows the user being asked the question to see who is posing it, but when it is shared, others cannot.

Additionally, Nas was using an Instagram filter that records the user in two distinct lights and voices, making it seem as if the rapper was speaking and then his inner thoughts were being revealed.

One of the questions he was asked was, “i think i’m pregnant…”

The rapper responded in his video answer, “congratulations!” Then, using the filter, his “inner thoughts” answer was “get rid of it,” suggesting that they should get an abortion.

The three-second video instantly triggered pro-life organizers, with anti-abortion group Students For Life of America grabbing the video and the anti-abortion publication Live Action News turning the event into an article on the 21 year old’s “flippantly admitted” acceptance of abortion.

They also cite Nas’s appearance on a podcast, where the rapper told the interviewers that he “understands… the details” of the abortion topic as a former political science major. They use his answers, in response to the host’s talking about how bad a mother her cousin is, as evidence of his pro-choice support. They then try to explain why his alleged support is bad.

Nas then took to Twitter, explaining that the author of the article and those outraged were missing one crucial piece of context.

“the ‘pregnant fan’ was a boy on my instagram making a joke about him being pregnant,” the rapper tweeted, adding, “u losers.” Nas then replied under Live Action‘s tweet of the article, saying, “no one cares” and sharing a short video of fans dancing to his song “Holiday” in an attempt to ratio – or outperform – their tweet.

Currently, he’s succeeded, with his reply having twice the number of retweets and 35 times the likes of the article’s tweet.

Despite making it clear that he was playing a joke with the response, conservatives still took the opportunity to criticize the internet sensation. The right-wing website Daily Wire wrote about the three-second video as well, and then claimed that he had “Taunt[ed] Pro-Life Group About It” with his response.

“Even if the comment was distastefully said in jest, Nas is certainly without respect for the pro-life community,” the article read. They then cite other celebrities who had supposedly “disrespected” pro-life people, comparing Nas’s joke to Mila Kunis donating to Planned Parenthood, and Busy Philipps who “shouted” a story about receiving an abortion during a protest in front of the Supreme Court.

Nas could only muster a few words in response to yet another article. “[I’m] really starting to hate these ppl that run the news man,” he wrote.

He then replied to the Daily Wire‘s tweet, “no one cares and ur lying,” once again posting the same video of fans dancing to “Holiday” in hopes of getting a better “ratio” than the original tweet.

And so far he has nearly twice the retweets and over 33 times more likes than the article’s tweet.
