Actress Cynthia Nixon, best known for her portrayal of Miranda on Sex and the City, announced on Instagram that her son is transgender. Nixon is running to be governor of New York.

Nixon made the announcement this past Friday on the Trans Day of Action.

“I’m so proud of my son Samuel Joseph Mozes (called Seph) who graduated college this month,” the Emmy Award-winning actress wrote. “I salute him and everyone else marking today’s #TransDayofAction.”

Seph is 21 and just graduated from the University of Chicago. His father, Danny Mozes, is a teacher and Nixon’s ex-partner.

Nixon is bisexual and has been married to Christine Marinoni since 2012.
