Marriage News Watch: Supreme Court to conference on same-sex marriage cases
This is the week when the U.S. Supreme Court meets to decide whether to take a marriage case. After meeting in conference on Monday, the Justices will announce their decision next week, on October 6th. Currently, cases from Virginia, Indiana, Wisconsin, Utah and Oklahoma are ready for consideration. The court could take one case, or several, or none at all.

Va. college students school homophobic street preacher with song about love
HARRISONBURG, Va. — When an anti-gay preacher stood outside of a James Madison University library in Harrisonburg, Va., this week, to preach the sinfulness of homosexuality, he was greeted by students sharing a song about love and tolerance. The unidentified preacher was drowned by a chorus of more than 100 student voices singing the song “How He Loves.”

Va. House Republicans aim to hire lawyer to defend same-sex marriage ban
RICHMOND, Va. — The GOP-controlled Virginia House of Delegates on Thursday approved a resolution that includes language that would allow the branch to hire legal counsel to defend the state’s ban on same-sex marriage, something Attorney General Mark Herring has chosen not to do.

U.S. Supreme Court blocks same-sex marriages in Virginia
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court is delaying the start of same-sex marriage in Virginia. The court on Wednesday granted a request from a county clerk in northern Virginia to block same-sex marriages across the state while the issue is being appealed to the Supreme Court. The court provided no explanation for its order.
