Marjorie Taylor Greene storms out of the room as gay congressman calls out “insane” behavior

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) regularly uses her speaking time in the House to insult witnesses and colleagues. But when out gay Rep. Robert Garcia called out Greene’s “insane” behavior during a recent hearing, she couldn’t take it and walked out during his speech.

During Tuesday’s House Oversight Committee hearing, Greene spoke for about five minutes about crime in Washington, D.C., calling it an “absolute embarrassment to our country,” according to Newsweek.

“It’s very un-American to attack and demonize migrants in the way that some of this majority continue do,” Rep. Garcia said.

“I’d also like to remind everyone that one of our own colleagues was carjacked months ago here in Washington, D.C.,” Greene said. “We also just had a former Trump admin official [Mike Gill, formerly of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission] die because he was shot here in our nation’s capital, and many Hill staffers themselves have been attacked just walking the city streets. This is an ongoing crime epidemic here in our nation’s capital and it’s appalling.”

Greene then echoed Republican talking points, accusing President Joe Biden and Democrats of creating lawless and dangerous cities.

However, Garcia, the first out gay immigrant ever elected to Congress, spoke immediately after Greene and slammed her support of the people arrested for attacking the nation’s Capitol on January 6, 2021.

“I want to remind the gentlelady that it was her that actually organized a trip to the D.C. jail to hug and high-five and sit with the insurrectionists that actually attacked our Capitol,” he said. “So, if we’re talking about the safety of D.C., and the Capitol, it is quite, I think, ironic.”

Garcia noted that Greene referred to the January 6 arrestees as “political prisoners” and “hostages.” Greene has repeatedly downplayed the attack on the Capitol that left five people dead and 114 police officers injured.

“They actually tried to overthrow our government,” Garcia said, adding, “She literally supported an insurrection and attack on the Capitol.”

In the middle of Garcia’s comments, Greene walked out of the room. But he continued to criticize her afterward.

Posting video of her walking out on his X account, Garcia wrote “Marjorie Taylor Greene tried to complain about DC crime rates but walked out of the room when I reminded her I saw her hugging and coddling the Jan 6th insurrectionists in jail. She even yelled that they’re political prisoners in the middle of my remarks. She’s insane.”

Garcia’s press secretary, Marissa Davis, told the aforementioned publication, “January 6th was a violent insurrection that claimed the lives of Capitol police officers. Congressman Garcia is not going to sit by and watch as Marjorie Taylor Greene claims to stand with law enforcement when he watched her cheer on the domestic terrorists that attacked our democracy and Capitol.”

Greene has previously shown naked pictures of President Biden’s son Hunter Biden at a House Oversight Committee hearing in an attempt to embarass the president. Garcia called her out for that as well.

She regularly uses her position to insult people and create spectacles around people she dislikes. She has called trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney to President Joe Biden a “pedophile.” She shouted “Liar!” at Biden during this year’s State of the Union address. She tried to shut down the House twice when it was voting on the LGBTQ+ Equality Act. She hangs transphobic signs outside her office at the Capitol. She called a gay Jewish congressman “Rep. Mussolini.” She hounded a school shooting survivor in the street, calling him an “idiot.”
