A father has shared on TikTok how emotional it was to see a transgender woman living out and proud in a small Texas town. While his supportive video is touching, his son’s enthusiastic support steals the moment.

James Eric Barlow posted the video from his car with his son in the backseat. In his commentary, he shares that he saw the woman as he walked into a local truck stop.

“We all know that [there are] people that are disgusted whenever they see a trans person,” he starts. “And we all know of the people who don’t care if they see a trans person. But apparently, we’re a third type of person, or at least, I am – I can’t speak for him” as he motions to his son.

“I am, too!” the boy responds enthusiastically.

Barlow recounted that the two were walking into the truck stop when he held the door open for the woman, something he normally does.

“I didn’t think twice about who she was, then I noticed, wait a second, that’s a trans woman,” he said. “When I tell you how happy it made me; I’m getting emotional now,” he said, wiping away tears.

“To be able to see somebody be out and open to the world here in a small town in Texas, you’ve just got to know how much bravery that takes. Right, Mikey?”

“Hell yeah!” his son shouts from the backseat.

Barlow admits that he wanted to stop the woman to express his admiration but didn’t want to seem creepy or to call her out.

So instead, he opted to give her a shoutout on social media in the hopes that she might see it.

“If you’re a trans woman and you came here to the Landmark Truck stop in Clyde, Texas, just know that we’re proud of you,” he said. “Right, Mikey?”

And his son’s emphatic agreement makes the video complete. He’s just as thrilled as his dad to see a hero walk among them.
