Fans of the reality show 90 Day Fiancé are angry about a cast member’s reaction to his partner coming out to him as bisexual, with one social media user calling him a “trash ass person.”

90 Day Fiancé follows couples in long-distance relationships in which each member lives in a different country. Each couple takes advantage of a visa allowing the fiancé of an American citizen to visit the United States for 90 days. During that time, the couple experiences being together in person for the first time and must decide before the 90 days are up whether they want to spend the rest of their lives together.

In a recent episode, Sophie Sierra comes out as bisexual to her partner Rob Warne. After expressing how scared she is to tell him, Warne remains silent for a long time before going on a rant wrought with harmful biphobic stereotypes.

First, he questioned why she didn’t tell him when they met.

“I wasn’t fully accepting of it two and a half years ago, which is why I’ve only told you now,” she explained, “because I’ve accepted it now.”

He then questioned her identity, asking if she’d ever even been with a woman and trying to tell her that most women, gay or straight, are physically attracted to other women and can appreciate women’s beauty.

Sophie explained that the straight ones don’t want to have sex with other women, which led Warne to question whether that’s what she wants. She explained that because she is in a committed relationship with Warne, she does not currently want to have sex with a woman.

He challenged her claim that she’d never want to have sex with another woman if they get married. “You’re just cool with never doing it?” he asked.

“I’m cool with marrying you,” she replied.

He then told the camera he didn’t get how she could be crying while also claiming it wouldn’t affect their relationship.

“It sounds like in five, ten years you’re gonna pop up and just f**k some woman. Because you’re gonna want to know,” he told Sophie.

She said she’d never cheat on him and that if she ever did feel that need, she would come to him to talk about it and hope to “respectfully figure things out.”

“But I would never do anything behind your back,” she emphasized.

Warne retorted that he refused to ever let her have a “side relationship or a side thing” and said if she decides she wants to have sex with a woman, then “we f**k a girl.”

He then used the logic that “if my girl gets to f**k somebody else then I get to f**k somebody else,” as she tried to explain to him that her decision would be about exploring her sexuality whereas his would just be about sleeping with a hot woman. She said she would never be okay with him sleeping with another woman.

As the couple drove to the jewelry store to shop for wedding bands, he continued to question whether she could be happy with him and began to get angry that she had “secretly” been looking at women while they were together after getting angry at him for something similar (in an earlier episode, Warne admitted that he spoke to other women online and received explicit content from them).

Viewers were not surprised at Warne’s reaction. Some had even voiced in advance of her coming out to him that he wasn’t going to handle it well, and many more came to Sophie’s defense on social media.
