Republicans have attacked out Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg for pretty much everything he does and even many things he hasn’t done: not visiting the site of the Ohio train derailment, visiting the site of the Ohio train derailment, falling asleep on a plane, traveling at all, planes getting grounded, Japanese airports losing luggage, taking care of his kids when they’re sick….
And now they’re mad at him for driving a minivan since he and his husband adopted two kids.

She’s now blaming Buttigieg for a potential pilot shortage in the year 2032.
“We drive a Pacifica. I never thought I was gonna be a minivan person, and then we had kids,” Buttigieg said in a CNBC interview last week. “It’s a plug-in, so it’s a hybrid.”

The clip of the rather innocuous statement ended up being shared by the Republican National Committee’s research account on X, an account that promises to expose “the lies, hypocrisy, and failed far-left policies of Joe Biden and the Democrat Party.”
While it might not have been entirely clear why the RNC thought that Buttigieg driving a minivan counted as a lie, hypocrisy, or a failed far-left policy, some conservatives in the comments made it clear that they understood it to be a homophobic joke.

Others, including Buttigieg’s husband, Chasten Buttigieg, were amazed that Republicans would even care about what kind of automobile he drives.
“I’m starting to think the RNC thinks about my family more than our closest relatives,” Chasten Buttigieg quipped. “Send an address! It’s Christmas card season.”
