Republican priorities remain deeply unpopular with American voters and the ongoing attacks on LGBTQ+ people rank right at the top of the list.

New polling shows that voters opposed the right’s recent push to yank books with gay characters and themes from library shelves, ban government buildings from flying Pride flags, and trying to silence teachers from talking about LGBTQ+ people.

Data for Progress surveyed voters earlier this month to measure the pulse of Americans’ support for the policies being pushed by MAGA Republicans and the religious right.

Over half of Americans (52%) oppose federal legislation banning public schools, libraries, and hospitals from having programs, events, or literature that mention gay or transgender people.

Even more (53%) are against federal legislation banning all federal agencies and facilities, including the military, from having programs, events, or literature that mention gay or transgender people.

Federal legislation banning discussion of topics related to gay or transgender people in public schools also fares poorly. 50% of likely voters are against the attempts to stifle teachers, with a third of respondents “strongly opposed.”

Republicans were the only group of voters who supported each idea. Democrats and independents both opposed the measures. White, older, and uneducated people were more likely to back the policies.
