As Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) continues to trail well behind former president Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, political observers have turned their attention back to a very important question: Does DeSantis wear heels?
On Tuesday, Politico published a piece in which three footwear experts suggested that social media posts claiming that the anti-LGBTQ+ governor wears lifts to add a few inches to his height are probably correct. Late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Charlamagne Tha God wasted no time roasting DeSantis for his conspicuously odd boots.

DeSantis opposed gender-affirming care for trans people but he might not be above it for himself.
On Tuesday night’s episode of The Daily Show, guest host Charlamagne Tha God played a clip from a recent interview in which DeSantis claimed that his signature shoes are “just standard, off-the-rack Lucchese boots.” DeSantis also claimed that he is 5’11”.

“You know your campaign is going terribly wrong when people only want to talk about your shoes,” Charlamagne Tha God cracked.
“But at least now I know why DeSantis is in that huge fight with Disney,” the host added, referring to DeSantis’s protracted legal battle stemming from the entertainment giant’s opposition to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law. “It’s not because of wokeness; it’s because you got to be this tall to ride the Magic Teacups.”
“Have you been following this mystery of whether or not Ron DeSantis wears lifts in his boots?” Jimmy Kimmel asked on last night’s episode of his ABC show. “A number of people have been claiming he wears special big boy boots to make him taller.”
Noting the Politico story, Kimmel added that “it does seem that Ron DeSantis may be wearing heels.”
“I tell you what, throw in a tube of lipstick, and suddenly it’s illegal to teach kids in Florida public schools about their own governor,” he joked, referencing both Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law and the governor’s support for a state law aimed at banning drag performances in venues where minors are present.
Kimmel also played a recent clip of Donald Trump Jr. blasting DeSantis for being “insecure” about his height. “Yeah,” Kimmel joked, “Take it from a guy who’s not insecure at all.”
