For the past several days, people on social media have been mocking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for allegedly wearing boots that contain internal heels to make him look taller.
And now Donald Trump has joined in the mockery.

Disney appeared unfazed, announcing a Pride Nite just after DeSantis made his threat.
The allegation that DeSantis wears “hidden heels” – also known as lifts or elevator shoes – comes from several pictures of him in shoes with floppy, curled-up toes and noticeably large heels.

In one set of images being shared on social media, there are three pictures of DeSantis in such shoes with the words “Tell me he’s not wearing hidden heels” and the supposed outline of his foot inside the shoe. Trump shared this on his Twitter clone, Truth Social, without any caption.
The website Defector speculates that DeSantis, who is somewhat shorter than Trump, might be trying to lessen the height differential between him and Trump for the primary elections.
Trump has claimed to stand at 6’3″, which would make him very tall, although many online don’t believe him. Trump has himself faced speculation that he uses elevator shoes.
DeSantis’s contempt for transgender people and specifically for gender-affirming care appears hypocritical if he is going to such extreme lengths to appear taller as part of a political battle of masculinity with Trump.
One commenter on X, formerly known as Twitter, called this a form of gender-affirming care.
Trump currently has a commanding lead in the GOP primary, polling at an average of 57.4%, while second-place DeSantis is only getting 12.6% support, according to RealClearPolitics’s average of polls.
