A 24-year-old college student has pled guilty to threatening to kill a member of Congress for his stances against LGBTQ+ rights. While the U.S. Attorney’s office did not release the name of the Congressman, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) confirmed on his podcast that the voicemail was directed at him.
According to the U.S. attorney, Allan Poller – a track and field team member at Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire – left a voicemail at the congressman’s office on March 29.

Hi, my name is Allan Poller, A-L-L-A-N P-O-L-L-E-R, [phone number redacted]. And I just want to let you know, Representative [Name], if you keep on coming for the gays, we’re gonna strike back and I guarantee you, you do not want to f**k with us. We will kill you if that’s what it takes. I will take a bullet to your f**king head if you f**k with my rights anymore. And then if you want to keep going down that path, you know who’s next. Poller said he left the message after a night of drinking and scrolling through TikTok videos.
On an episode of Gaetz’s podcast, Firebrand, he played the voicemail after introducing Poller as someone “brazenly boasting about their gayness.” He also did not redact Poller’s phone number. Gaetz said he didn’t know what he ever did to “come for the gays.”
“I think we should be friendly to all… but that doesn’t mean that we have to reorient the fundamentals of American life or the science of gender…” he said.
Gaetz has consistently gotten a score of “0” on HRC’s Congressional Scorecard, showing his solid opposition to LGBTQ+ equality. But he has gone beyond voting against LGBTQ+ equal rights and has been an outspoken opponent of LGBTQ+ people.
He has referred to LGBTQ+ people as “degenerate” at least twice this year, saying that his school prayer bill will keep LGBTQ+ identities out of schools. He accused USAID, the federal agency that manages foreign aid and developmental assistance to other countries, of having a “perverse ideology” for supporting LGBTQ+ people in other countries. He also got the Air Force to shut down a drag event on a military base after he complained about it.
In the same podcast episode, he also said the trans community is “one of the most – unfortunately – severely unstable groups in the world.”
Poller has been charged with transmitting in interstate commerce a threat to injure the person of another. He faces up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. His sentencing is scheduled for January 18, 2024.
