Far-right media company The Daily Wire is making its own Snow White movie in response to what it has characterized as Disney’s “woke” agenda.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snow White and the Evil Queen comes amid conservative backlash to Disney’s own upcoming live-action Snow White remake starring Rachel Zegler. Conservative trolls have lobbed “go woke, go broke” criticisms at the entertainment giant for casting the West Side Story actress, whose mother is of Columbian descent, as the titular princess, and for reimagining the fairy tale’s seven dwarves as “magical creatures” of different sizes, races, and genders.

The Daily Wire’s version is set to debut next year on the company’s newly launched kids’ streaming platform, Bentkey, and will star YouTuber Brett Cooper, host of The Daily Wire’s The Comments Section With Brett Cooper.

The company released a teaser trailer for Snow White and the Evil Queen Monday as part of the launch of Bentkey, itself a response to Disney’s opposition to Florida’s infamous anti-LGBTQ+ “Don’t Say Gay” law.
As Variety reported back in March 2022, The Daily Wire announced its intention to invest at least $100 million into kids’ content over the next three years. That announcement came just days after The Walt Disney Company released a statement denouncing Florida’s “Parental Rights in Education Act,” commonly known as the “Don’t Say Gay” law, which restricted how and at what grade level issues of sexual orientation and gender identity could be discussed in schools. The law has since been expanded to ban discussion of sexuality and gender identity at all grade levels.
At the time, Daily Wire co-founder Jeremy Boreing said that Americans were “tired of giving their money to woke media companies who want to indoctrinate their children with radical race and gender theory.”
“But they want to do more than just cancel them,” Boreing continued. “They want alternatives.”
As Axios noted, the launch of Bentkey on Monday was timed to coincide with Disney’s 100th anniversary.
“It’s taken 100 years to build Disney,” Boreing said Monday. “We know we aren’t what Disney is today, but we hope in time we might become what they were, once upon a time: a little studio with big ideas and the courage to chase them.”
Boreing claimed that while the Walt Disney Company still bears the name of its founder, “they have all but abandoned his legacy.” The company, Boreing said, “pushes all the worst excesses of the woke left.”
“It would be impossible to overstate just how big a loss this is for Americans who believe in basic reality,” he added.
According to Axios, the app’s bizarre name is inspired by a necklace Boreing wears. In a video message, Boreing said that the “Bentkey” branding was chosen specifically to distance the app’s kids’ content from The Daily Wire’s political content.
Bentkey launches with 18 shows, including four original series. And it appears Snow White isn’t the only Disney property the company is imitating. Images from Bentkey’s animated series Chip Chilla, about a family of homeschooled chinchillas, bear a striking resemblance to Bluey, a popular Australian cartoon that airs on Disney Junior and streams on Disney+. Janine Israel, a critic for The Guardian, even noted that Chip Chilla’s theme music is similar to Bluey’s.
