Country singer Ty Herndon has tied the know with his partner, Alex Schwartz, in an outdoor ceremony in Tennessee.

Over 300 people, including celebrities like Kristin Chenoweth and Herndon’s longtime friend, Sally Struthers, attended the celebration.

The decor featured “the formality of black and white juxtaposed against the casual backdrop of the farm,” Herndon told PEOPLE. “We like to call it country chic and everyone loved having a little bit of both experiences.”

The men chose Owen Farm, a property on the banks of the Cumberland River, for their big day.

“We knew we wanted something that captured our personalities and we fell in love with this place as soon as we saw it. We used the wedding scene in the movie of The Proposal as a bit of a reference,” he told the magazine.

“We just wanted a space and a place that could accommodate our eclectic group of friends and family to celebrate love, life, and our future together. That was the main thing that was important to us — and that everyone have a lot of fun.”

Former contemporary Christian band Avalon members served as the officiant and groomsmen.

Herndon came out in 2014.

“My mother probably knew I was gay before I did. I remember sitting down with her and having the conversation,” Herndon told PEOPLE at the time. But, ultimately, “she was more concerned about me having a happy life. You have to be able to do that in your own skin, and [my family] has seen me struggle with being gay my whole career.”

His announcement inspired singer Billy Gilman to go public as well in a You Tube video posted just a few hours later.
