As hedge fund financier Vivek Ramaswamy rises in the 2024 Republican presidential primary polls, some Republican activists are rising up against the possibility that a Hindu person could get the GOP nod, going so far as to claim that God “hates” him.
Ramaswamy is like most Republicans and has promised to advance conservative Christians’ agenda if he wins the White House. He wants states to ban abortion at six weeks, before many pregnant people even know that they’re pregnant. He promised to ban gender-affirming care for trans youth if such a bill passes Congress. He even said that Target “spit in [conservatives’] face” by selling Pride gear earlier this year and said that he would nominate anti-LGBTQ+ Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) to the Supreme Court if he could.

A month ago he sounded more supportive, but the GOP primary is turning into a battle of who can oppose trans equality more.
But that’s not enough, according to anti-choice activist Abby Johnson. She was responding to Ramaswamy’s appearance on the conservative Christian program FlashPoint last month, where he said that even though he is Hindu he has “Judeo-Christian values.”

“Satan is the author of confusion,” Johnson said on FlashPoint this week. “And right now, the battle is coming for the presidential nomination. And there’s a man who is gaining traction right now as the presidential nominee and his name is Vivek Ramaswamy and he is Hindu. And those who are Hindu believe in many gods.”
“And he speaks well, and he is very charismatic, and he says the right things,” Johnson continued. “He says so many right things sometimes I’m like, ‘Maybe he is the right guy!’ But he’s not, because our God will not be mocked.”
“You know what? You know who he reminds me of sometimes? Barack Obama,” she said. Obama is a practicing Christian who doesn’t keep his faith private. “Because he is charismatic, he says all the right things. Do not be fooled, friends. Do not be fooled.”
“Do not be a victim of Satan’s confusion right now. This is an important time for us to have clarity of mind as we are going into an election cycle. So please discern. Please use discernment right now because God hates those who are willing to put up idols over him, and he will not be mocked.”
Despite his lack of political experience, Ramaswamy is currently in third place in Real Clear Politics’ average of polls, ahead of former Vice President Mike Pence, former Trump administration official Nikki Haley, and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC). He just passed Pence in the last two weeks, and he is currently behind Donald Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
