This gay love song is about to blow up the internet. Did Ed Sheeran write it?

Nic Hamilton‘s new single, “SPINS,” has just been released and has the hallmarks of a classic modern love song. The catchy melody and easygoing lyrics have people wondering if Ed Sheeran wrote it.

The actor and social media sensation also has an impressive following for his music, with over 115,000 streams monthly. He’s quick to point out that Sheeran had nothing to do with the tune, but that hasn’t stopped his two million fans on social media from speculating otherwise.

Hamilton’s boyfriend inspired the song, he says. And while it’s being compared to Sheeran’s “Perfect,” the only similarity is that it would be perfect to play during a wedding reception.

“I wrote ‘SPINS’ the morning after our second date,” he told LGBTQ Nation. “My hungover brain needed to put the story of our date on paper, otherwise I was going to forget how much love I felt for this guy the night prior.”

“Whether it’s the gay pride of it all, the cute story, or the obvious, apparent love throughout the track, I just hope people see some of themselves in the song, or perhaps what they hope for themselves. It’s also such a great feeling to be able to release this song during Pride Month, and I feel proud to be part of a community where I can be unabashedly myself,” he continued.

The 23-year-old Australian-born artist has appeared in Stephen Kings’ IT and Academy-Award-nominated 2016 film Captain Fantastic (he is also featured on the soundtrack). Hamilton has four film and TV projects but is constantly writing and recording music. His first single was released in 2021.
