Joe Biden slams Marjorie Taylor Greene at White House Correspondents’ Dinner

President Joe Biden told quite a few jokes at the White House Correspondents’ dinner this past Saturday – including a few about LGBTQ+ personalities – but he’s getting perhaps the most attention for his dig at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

“I want everybody to have fun tonight, but please be safe,” he said. “If you find yourself disoriented or confused, it’s either you’re drunk or Marjorie Taylor Greene.”

This is far from the first time that Biden has attacked Greene – just last week, he used her image in a video announcing his 2024 presidential campaign as an example of “MAGA extremists” – and it seems like attacking her as a stand-in for growing Republican extremism is going to be one of his tactics in the 2024 presidential election.

Greene is known not only for her outlandish statements, her attacks on LGBTQ+ people, and her poor hold on reality but also for how she has cozied up with House Republican leadership, making her an easy example of how even mainstream Republicans are beholden to the QAnon crowd.

Biden also made a few jokes about LGBTQ+ people, including out former CNN host Don Lemon and gave WNBA player Brittney Griner a shout-out.

While joking about how the media has been calling him old, he mentioned Lemon.

“You call me old? I call it being seasoned. You say I’m ancient? I say I’m wise. You say I’m over the hill?  Don Lemon would say that’s a man in his prime,” Biden quipped.

He was referring to comments Lemon made about former South Carolina Gov. and Trump administration official Nikki Haley (R) being past her “prime” after she announced her presidential campaign. CNN fired Lemon last week.

His comments about Griner – who was held in a Russian work camp on trumped-up charges until Biden got her back in a prisoner exchange – were more friendly.

“Tonight, unlike last year, Brittney Griner is here with her wife Cherelle,” he said. “Brittney, where you are, kid? Stand up. Come on. I love this woman. Love you, Brittney.”

“This time last year, we were praying for you, Brittney, hoping you knew how hard all of us were fighting for your release.”
