Anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) tried to scold the House of Representatives about “decorum,” but it didn’t quite go as she had hoped.
“The members are reminded to abide by the decorum of the House,” she said yesterday as she temporarily presided over a house session. She had banged the gavel and was trying to get people to quiet down for a speech from House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA).
That’s when everyone just started laughing. Loudly. Greene started banging the gavel repeatedly to get people to stop mocking her. “The House will be in order! The House will be in order!”
The reason many of her colleagues may have thought it was funny that she was harping on “decorum” is that she has made disrespect for Democrats, minority groups, and school shooting survivors her entire brand. She calls pretty much anyone – from trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney to President Joe Biden – a “pedophile” if she disagrees with them. She shouted “Liar!” at Biden during this year’s State of the Union address. She was an outspoken supporter of the January 6 Capitol riots. She tried to shut down the House twice when it was voting on the LGBTQ+ Equality Act. She hangs transphobic signs outside her office at the Capitol. She called a gay Jewish congressman “Rep. Mussolini.” She hounded a school shooting survivor in the street, calling him an “idiot.”
“I haven’t laughed this hard in a while — but Marjorie Taylor Greene just called for “decorum” on the House Floor,” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) tweeted.
Greene “calling for decorum is like Leonardo DiCaprio telling people to date people their own age,” Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) tweeted. “Here’s another one: [Greene] calling for decorum is like George Santos telling people not to lie.”
