Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) has joined many of his fellow conservatives in vowing to boycott Bud Light because the beer brand partnered with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

“Saw Bud Light’s stupid ad campaign,” Crenshaw said in a video posted to his Instagram, referring to a brand partnership, not an ad campaign. “So guess what we’re going to do? We’re going to throw out every single Bud Light we’ve got in the fridge.”

He opens one of his refrigerators and shows that it’s full of other brands of beer, including Karbach, which is owned by Anheuser-Bush InBev, the same company that owns Bud Light.

“Alright, well I guess that was easy,” he concluded.

“When you want to boycott Bud Light but then you realize you don’t ever buy Bud Light,” he captioned the video.

Crenshaw’s protest was not well-received.

“do y’all wanna let him know who your parent company is?” one person commented on his Instagram video.

“Way to stick it to the man, they’re really feeling it,” another wrote.”You’re pathetic.”

“This is dumb, you have a fridge full of AB products,” wrote one person.

“Show me where the beer can hurt you, conservatives snowflakes?” wrote another.

“I’m just glad I already boycotted light beer in general,” Crenshaw later posted to Twitter with the hashtag #budlightboycott. It’s not clear whether he’s referring to an actual boycott or, like many people who have never engaged in popular protest, he is confusing his consumer preferences with a political statement.

Last week, Mulvaney posted a video to Instagram showing a customized can of beer with her face on it that Bud Light sent her as part of a deal to promote the beer on her very large social media platform. The cans are not widely available – they were just sent to her.

This sparked an enormous temper tantrum on the right, which is currently attacking transgender people’s rights in state legislatures, local governments, and school boards across the country since Mulvaney has proudly documented her first year of transitioning on social media. Many conservatives posted videos to their TikTok and other accounts dumping out Bud Light beers.

Several prominent Republicans, including Crenshaw, joined the trend. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) posted a picture to her personal Twitter account this weekend with a case of Coors Light.

“I would have bought the king of beers, but it changed it’s gender to the queen of beers,” she said, making a convoluted joke about Bud Light being trans. “So it’s made to chill from here on out.”

Of course, many of her followers pointed out that Coors Light has a long history of supporting LGBTQ+ people in the workplace and in their advertising.

Conservative musician Kid Rock last week shot up four cases of beer with a semiautomatic rifle in protest of a trans woman showing a beer can in an Instagram video.

“Fuck Bud Light, and fuck Anheuser-Busch,” he said.
