GOP lawmaker complains that equality for trans people will make her less equal somehow

A Republican lawmaker nonsensically ranted about how giving trans people rights will somehow result in her having fewer rights.

Minnesota State Rep. Bobbie Harder (R) expressed these worries during discussions of a state resolution asking Congress to officially add the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution since the requirements to do so have been met.

Harder, it seems, is worried that doing so would somehow make trans women more equal than she is.

“I understand the LGBTQ, ok the whole group, they can choose who they wish to partner with, that is their choice,” she said. “The part that I’m gonna take issue with is that I am a woman. I was born that way. You cannot change that.”

“So you are including people, if I understand this correctly, that are changing because that’s their choice. I mean they can do that, but now you’re including people that were not born as girls, they’re something else. So now they’re being included, so the perception that I have is now I’m potentially gonna be excluded. Because now I’m coming up there with that we are all equal, but apparently some people are more equal than others. I just, I struggle with that.”

On Twitter, many couldn’t believe she said the quiet part out loud, pointing out that Harder is clearly worried about losing her own privilege and drawing comparisons to the quote she, herself, referenced from George Orwell’s allegorical novel Animal Farm: “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.”
