Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) once again faced jeers from a crowd of sports fans, this time in his home state of Texas.

On Monday, Cruz attended a parade in Houston celebrating the Houston Astros’ 2022 World Series win. Riding in the back of a flatbed truck, the senator was greeted with boos from the crowd.

Video from the parade also shows what appeared to be a beer can being thrown at Cruz. The can, which was reportedly a White Claw, hit the senator as a staffer stepped in to block it.

Police arrested 33-year-old Joseph Halm Arcidiacono and charged him with aggravated assault for reportedly throwing two unopened 12 oz. cans at Cruz, according to Houston’s KPRC. Houston police said the senator was struck in the head and neck but did not receive medical attention.

According to a prosecutor, Arcidiacono told officers, “I know, I’m an idiot. I’m sorry,” as they took him into custody.

“As always I’m thankful for the Houston Police and Capitol Police for their quick action,” Cruz told Politico in a statement. “I’m also thankful that the clown who threw his White Claw had a noodle for an arm.”

The incident certainly wasn’t the first time Cruz faced a hostile crowd. Late last month, the anti-LGBTQ Republican attended the World Series match-up between the New York Yankees and Houston Astros in New York. The crowd at Yankee Stadium booed Cruz, with one person reportedly shouting “Go back to Cancun!” The jeer was a reference to the senator’s 2021 vacation during a major winter storm that left millions of Texans without power and killed an estimated 702 residents of the state.

During an October appearance on The View, Cruz was also shouted down by audience members while attempting to promote his recent book.
