Singer Sam Smith will postpone the release of their third album, To Die For, so it can be renamed due to the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

“I have done a lot of thinking the last few weeks and feel that the title of the album and imminent release doesn’t feel right,” they wrote in a statement, “so I have come to the decision to continue working on the album and make some important changes and additions.”

Smith, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, posted the announcement on Twitter.

Despite the morbid reason for the album’s delay, Smith tried to keep things chipper in the posting.

“Don’t worry though,” they said. “There will be an album this year, I promise! But until then I am still going to bring out some new music over the next few months, which I’m incredibly excited about. Thank you for always being by my side and for your understanding and patience.”
