UPDATE: The victims have been named now. They are: Shanise Myers, 5, Jeremiah Myers, 11, Shanta Myers, 36, and Brandi Mellls, 22.

Two women, ages 36 and 22, were slaughtered in their apartment along with their 5 and 11-year-old children. According to the Times Union, all four were bound and their throats slit.

Authorities have been tight lipped about the slaying. So far they haven’t released the names of the victims until their families have been notified. An older son wasn’t at home at the time of the killings, but police did not say how old he is or where he was.

The four bodies were found after family called the landlord to check on them the day after Christmas. They told the landlord neither woman was answering phone calls. After entering the apartment and finding the bodies, the landlord quickly called the police.

“There are indications at the crime scene that this was not a random act,” Troy, New York Police Chief James Tedesco said. “We are certainly appealing to people in the community that would have any knowledge as to what may have transpired there to contact us as soon as possible.”

Tedesco said it was “the worst we’ve experienced” in the small northern New York town.

“Only a person of savagery would do something like this,” he said. “Nobody that’s been involved in this case is going to forget this.”

Autopsies performed yesterday should give authorities a clearer timeline of what happened in the apartment. So far, police have refused to answer whether any weapons were found or whether there was a sign of forced entry.

Anyone with information about the quadruple murder is encouraged to contact Capital Region Crimestoppers at (833)-ALB-TIPS.

“I know there is not a resource that we won’t tap in the city, or wherever we need to get it,” Tedesco said. “This will be a full-court press, if you will, until we bring someone to justice.”
